Pai Gow Poker is a mix of an ancient Chinese game and modern American Poker.
Objective of the game
Players have to beat the dealer with two hands of cards.
The cards
The ‘Wild Card’ can be used as almost every card.
It cannot always be used as an Ace, only when it is the fifth card in a Straight or a Flush. Apart from that, it is not permitted to use the Wild Card to make a pair of 10’s or Queens.
The game is played with one deck of card.
The game
After the bets have been put on the table, the Bank deals seven cards to each of the players and to itself. Both split their cards and remain with two hands, one of five cards, another one that holds two cards. The largest hand (five cards) always has to have a higher score than the smallest one.
The combinations of cards and the scores that go along with them are the same as in traditional Poker. However, in Pai Gow Poker it is possible to beat a Royal Flush, namely with five Aces. In this case the Wild Card is counted as the fifth Ace.
A player only wins if his two hands are better than the ones of the dealer. In this game there are usually a lot of Draws, in which neither the Bank, nor the players, win (or loose). The Bank will take a 5% commission on the winnings of the players in most casinos. The bets are paid 1:1.
